On December 16, 2017 I lead a workshop on Augmented and Virtual Reality development for Women Who Code, Chennai (India) at Freshworks.
When I was in Chennai, there was no organization for women to learn programming skills from without having to pay a fee. This deterred people from attending sessions and learning new languages. Before I could start one, I had to move to the US for Grad School. Luckily, I met other like-minded women over the internet, who established Women Who Code – Chennai in 2015 and are organizing events for folks interested in developing their skill set. I help with the publicity of events on social media and networking.
Last December, I led my first workshop in Chennai with Women Who Code. It was the most rewarding experience since most of us in India don’t have access to expensive VR equipment, not even to understand device capabilities. By the time we were done with the workshop, people had their own AR application running on their phones and knew how to run their VR simulations on an emulator. Here is a picture of the fantastic group I had the opportunity to teach.
