Krita is a free and open source application designed for digital painting, 2D animation, and image editing. Originally designed for Linux, Krita has also been available for Windows since 2014. May 20, 2015 Krita seems still very rough on this side, and GIMP won't fit the text inside a space different from a square. The shape of the 'text window' is the main problem. I found a seemingly efficient way to make the outline and backgrounds of balloons with vector layers, but making the 'tail' and merge it with the circles is still long.
Krita is a free, open-source app that aims to provide an affordable and adequate tool for all artists. It is the adaptation for large screen mobile devices of the famous digital painting and illustration software. Another option (a good one in fact) is to use a program like OBS, is open source just like Krita, you can record you whole screen or parts of it, save or stream, etc. For editing, there is programs like Kedenlive where you can 'shrink' for speed paints, or else. Jan 27, 2021 Krita Desktop has been developed by a group dedicated to providing free tools for a variety of tasks. With many hours of volunteer work and work paid by donations, they have produced items like Krita which is an open source graphic illustrator.
Krita Portable can run from a cloud folder, external drive, or local folder without installing into Windows. It's even better with the PortableApps.com Platform for easy installs and automatic updates.

It is perfect for sketching and painting, and presents an end–to–end solution for creating digital painting files from scratch by masters.
Krita is a great choice for creating concept art, comics, textures for rendering and matte paintings. Krita supports many colorspaces like RGB and CMYK at 8 and 16 bits integer channels, as well as 16 and 32 bits floating point channels.
Have fun painting with the advanced brush engines, amazing filters and many handy features that make Krita enormously productive.
Krita is available as an AppImage which means 'one app = one file', which you can download and run on your Linux system while you don't need a package manager and nothing gets changed in your system. Awesome!
AppImages are single-file applications that run on most Linux distributions. Download an application, make it executable, and run! No need to install. No system libraries or system preferences are altered. Most AppImages run on recent versions of Arch Linux, CentOS, Debian, Fedora, openSUSE, Red Hat, Ubuntu, and other common desktop distributions.
Running Krita on Linux without installationUnlike other applications, AppImages do not need to be installed before they can be used. However, they need to be marked as executable before they can be run. This is a Linux security feature.
Behold! AppImages are usually not verified by others. Follow these instructions only if you trust the developer of the software. Use at your own risk!
Download the Krita AppImage and make it executable using your file manager or by entering the following commands in a terminal:
Then double-click the AppImage in the file manager to open it.
Krita App Review
If you want to restrict what Krita can do on your system, you can run the AppImage in a sandbox like Firejail. This is entirely optional and currently needs to be configured by the user.
If you would like to update to a new version, simply download the new Krita AppImage.

Integrating AppImages into the system
If you would like to have the executable bit set automatically, and would like to see Krita and other AppImages integrated into the system (menus, icons, file type associations, etc.), then you may want to check the optional appimaged daemon.
Note for application authors
Thanks for distributing Krita in the AppImage format for all common Linux distributions. Great! Here are some ideas on how to make it even better.
Pro Tips for further enhancing the Krita AppImage
Please consider to add update information to the Krita AppImage and ship a
.zsync file so that it can be updated using AppImageUpdate. Tools like appimagetool and linuxdeployqt can do this for you easily.
Thanks for shipping AppStream metainfo inside your AppImage. Please open a pull request on https://github.com/AppImage/appimage.github.io/blob/master/data/Krita if you have changed it and would like to see this page updated accordingly.
